Matthew had a tendency to make an impact on all the many people who came into his life. He traveled around the world from a young age and made many friends along the way. And for those who did not know him personally, his kind demeanor shown through his bright eyes and a sheepish smile. That is why the violent end to his life rocked America to its core. In Matthew Shepard, individuals of all walks of life were able to see their own son, brother, student, friend. While his death was a tragedy, his legacy would change the treatment and perception of millions of queer Americans.
